Code of Conduct

Last updated: February 3, 2026

Our Purpose

Haven exists to transform how we respond to online hate. Our mission is to provide meaningful support to those experiencing harassment while promoting constructive dialogue—not to create another vector for conflict.

Haven is a support platform, NOT a tool for counter-attacks, brigading, or mob behavior. Every member of our community—whether a Figure seeking support or an Ally offering help—must commit to these principles.

Core Principles

Empathy Over Confrontation

Our goal is to support the person being harassed, not to “win” against harassers. Lead with compassion, understanding, and a genuine desire to de-escalate conflict. Focus on the target's well-being, not on punishing bad actors.

Support, Not Pile-On

Counterspeech means adding positive voices to a conversation, not drowning out others. We uplift and affirm—we don't attack, shame, or gang up on anyone, even those behaving badly. Fighting fire with fire only creates more fire.

Quality Over Quantity

One thoughtful, kind message is worth more than a hundred angry ones. Take time to craft responses that genuinely help. Consider whether your contribution adds value or just adds noise.

Respect for All Parties

Even when responding to harmful content, maintain respect for human dignity. People can change. Avoid dehumanizing language, personal attacks, or broad generalizations about groups of people.

Prohibited Behaviors

The following behaviors will result in immediate action, including warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from Haven:

Coordinated Harm

  • Brigading: Organizing or participating in coordinated attacks against individuals, accounts, or communities
  • Harassment: Directing hostile, threatening, or abusive content at any person, including those who originally posted harmful content
  • Doxxing: Sharing or seeking private information about individuals without their consent
  • Targeted campaigns: Using Haven to organize sustained negative attention toward specific individuals

Harmful Content

  • Inflammatory responses: Posting aggressive, insulting, or provocative content in response to harassment
  • Misinformation: Spreading false or misleading information
  • Hate speech: Content that attacks or demeans people based on protected characteristics
  • Threats: Any content that threatens violence or harm

Platform Manipulation

  • Fake accounts: Creating multiple accounts or impersonating others
  • False requests: Creating fake support requests or fabricating harassment
  • Gaming the system: Artificially inflating engagement or manipulating platform features
  • Automation abuse: Using bots or scripts to interact with the platform

Guidelines for Figures

As someone seeking support, you play a crucial role in maintaining Haven's integrity:

  • Be truthful: Only request support for genuine harassment. Provide accurate context about the situation.
  • Be specific: Clearly describe what kind of support you need. Not every situation calls for public responses.
  • Set boundaries: Communicate what types of responses you want (emotional support, counter-narratives, etc.).
  • Don't weaponize: Never use Haven to settle personal disputes or target people you disagree with.
  • Consider alternatives: Sometimes the best response is blocking, muting, or reporting—not engagement.

Guidelines for Allies

As a supporter, your actions directly reflect on our community and its mission:

  • Respond constructively: Focus on supporting the Figure, not attacking the harasser. Counter hate with kindness, facts, or humor—not more hate.
  • Stay calm: Don't let emotions drive your responses. If you're feeling angry, take a break before engaging.
  • Respect limits: Follow the Figure's stated preferences. If they want emotional support only, don't engage publicly on their behalf.
  • Know when to stop: Not every conversation can be saved. Recognize when further engagement is counterproductive.
  • Protect yourself: Your well-being matters. Don't absorb harassment meant for others. Take breaks when needed.
  • Use templates wisely: AI-generated suggestions are starting points, not scripts. Personalize them and ensure they fit the context.

Enforcement

We take violations of this Code of Conduct seriously. Our enforcement approach includes:

  • Warnings: For first-time or minor violations, we may issue a warning and educational guidance.
  • Temporary suspension: For repeated or moderate violations, accounts may be suspended for a defined period.
  • Permanent removal: For severe violations or repeated offenses, accounts will be permanently terminated.
  • Immediate action: Certain behaviors (e.g., coordinated brigading, threats) may result in immediate permanent removal without warning.

All enforcement decisions are made at our discretion. We aim to be fair and consistent, but we prioritize the safety of our community and the integrity of our mission.

Reporting Violations

If you witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it:

Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly. We protect reporter confidentiality to the extent possible.

A Final Note

The internet doesn't need another platform that amplifies conflict. Haven is an experiment in whether technology can help us be better to each other—even in the face of hate.

This only works if every member of our community commits to these principles. Thank you for being part of this effort to create a more supportive online world.
